Q: What do you do in a typical facial?

A: Every facial includes skin analysis, steaming and cleansing (never worry about washing off makeup before your facial because that's what I'm here for!), exfoliation, extractions as needed, facial massage, appropriate serums and mask, and shoulder, neck, and head massage.

Q: What are extractions?

A: Extractions are performed to remove blackheads, whiteheads, and congestion (flesh-colored bumps that you can't really see but can feel and are just a plug of dead skin and oil stuck in the hair follicle). And while extractions can be uncomfortable, they should never be painful because that can cause damage to the skin and underlying tissue.

Q: What's the difference between Dermaplaning and Microdermabrasion?

A: Both provide similar results in that they exfoliate the top layer of skin, the stratum corneum, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, resurface the tone and texture of skin, stimulate collagen production, allow products to penetrate deeper into the skin, and reduce blackheads.

The biggest difference is that dermaplaning removes the fine facial hair while microderm does not, which is why most women prefer dermaplaning over microderm. The methods of performing dermaplaning and microderm are quite different, though.

Dermaplaning utilizes a cellular abrasion blade to gently remove the outermost layer of skin and facial hair, while microderm is performed with a suctioning wand containing either crushed diamonds on the tip to exfoliate, or microcrystals that gently sand the skin, and a separate hole in the wand to suctions the dead skin. While dermaplaning and microderm both sound a little intimidating, both are gentle and have little to no downtime.
